The talk aims to raise awareness among participants of the critical issues concerning the transmission of cultural heritage raised by the current phase of transition from analog to digital that characterizes our civilization: analog photos have been replaced by digital photos; audio cassettes have been replaced by Compact Discs; handwritten letters have become emails: postcards have turned into selfies with friends; telegrams have been replaced by SMS or messages on WhatsAPP, and so on. Already from these few examples it is evident how documentary production - even that of a personal sphere - which once would have settled on paper supports, today settles on one of the many storage media used as a sequence of bits.
But what will remain of all this in the future? What will we pass on to our posterity? What are the strategies to implement to avoid the loss of this important material?
